    Greetings all:

I have a brand new Dell 4700C. It's been up one week, and I am having a consistent problem with CPU usage at 100%.

    Some background:

It is a workstation, networked into a server running Windows 2000.
Upon restart, the CPU usage remains low. After doing a few tasks, it will soar to 100%. I have disconnected the mapped drives and taken myself off the network, and this problem will still occur. I rebooted into safe mode and still had the problem.

Checking running processes, the process using 100% is "SYSTEM".

There are several instances of svchost running.

I have McAfee anti virus; ran Adaware SE; Used a program called XP AntiSpy to uninstall Windows messenger. I have checked and rechecked IP configuraton and drive mapping.

I ran a hijack this log which I am attaching. I was wondering if anyone could explain the bolded line: browser helper object drive letter access.

If anyone has any suggestions, they will be greatly appreciated. I have spent considerable time on the phone with Dell techs and there only suggestion was to make my workstation the server. Not an option.

Please help, I'm at the breaking point.

    Thanks in advance!

    Max
