When I turn the computer on and the XP screen comes up I sometimes have to use the cd to get it to load. Why is this? It doesn't do it very often, but can be quite aggravating. First I put the cd in the disk drive and then shut down and start back up. It shows boot from cd. I wait until it comes to the prompt screen and choose last known good configuration and it will load then. I never know when it is going to do it.

You have something that is corrupt or corrupting the registry in XP. You might try booting to the CD and then choosing to re-install or REPAIR XP. This will reload all XP's system files and (hopefully) will leave all your other programs and data intact.

Also, BEFORE doing the above, I would do a complete virus scan of your hardrive. No need fixing something if a virus or a worm is doing the damge.

Thanks for your help. I'm afraid to try this. It doen't do it very often. If it gets worse I will try it.
