xp pro wont go!!

i have a buddies computer here...it turns on...does the post test ..beeps once.....then goes to a screen that says we are sorry ......probably due to hardware or software prob. .....asks to choose windows stsart normaly..safe mode //last known good ....and so on! prob is..when you choose either option it does nothing the timer stops and thats it !! the pc was doin it before thought it might be xp prob tried over install ,,did not work
erased the disk with DISK SCRUBBER then done fresh install still wont go pass this screen ! i took out the memory and put in new same prob ! is mobo gone or the chip fried?the pc worked fine one day then it did not! thanks boogey

Sounds like maybe hardware. Strip out anything not needed, nic card, sound card, modem, any extra drives, then try to reinstall.

stripped out everything even tried MY hd in it wont boot up!cycles back to that screen it starts to go to windows (a bar appears where it i guess is loading windows..) then goes back to reboot it self and stops at this same screen COULD IT BE THE MOBO DRIVERS!

Another hard drive isn't going to boot in it to begin with.

Can you get to the bios setup without the hard drive installed?

I'm thinking of a repair install. In order to do that the bios has to be set to boot from the cdrom first.....with the XP disk in the drive, you can try a repair install. It will be the SECOND option. It will appear at first that you are doing a new install.
