I have an XP OS, Dell Dimension L100r PC with error message that says," windows cant' start, file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

I have 2 XP cd-Disk, for repair files but can't remember which one I originally used so i put the 1 I thought was the correct in to boot for repair. It takes me 2 a screen that asks which installation do I want so I put 1 and hit enter. It doesn't ask for a password just gives me screen prompt such as this:
C\WINDOWS>. I put my admin password in anyway and it repeats the same screen prompt.

Please help. Don't want to lose my files that have been backed up in Live One Care and have to Re-Insatall my OS altogether.
