Hi, I have a funny error which keeps restarting the computer after an hour or so. It talks about the Services and Controller app, and the technical details are:
    C:\DOCUME~1\Tony\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER6637.dir00\services.exe.mdmp
    C:\DOCUME~1\Tony\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER6637.dir00\appcompat.txt
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Tony

Go here and click the green icon to download and save HiJackThis 2.0.4.

After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to install it.

Allow it to install in its default location - C:\Program Files.

After it's been installed, start it and then click "Do a system scan and save a log file".

When the scan is finished in less than 30 seconds, a log file will appear.

    Save that log file.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire log file here.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

Start HiJackThis, but don't run a scan.

Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button.

Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.

Click on the "Save List" button.

Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file somewhere. It'll then open in Notepad.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire file here.

Why are you still using Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer 6.0 SP2 and haven't installed the SP3 upgrade for Windows XP and haven't upgraded to Internet Explorer 8?

Your computer is lacking a lot of security-related enhancements and fixes by not doing this.

    --------------------------------------------------

Alwil Avast 5 is your anti-virus program, so you need to get rid of EVERYTHING that's associated with McAfee.

Go here and click one of the [email protected] links to download and save McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool 3.5.109.1.

Close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to run it.

Allow it to remove everything that's associated with McAfee.

Once the removal process is complete, restart the computer.

    --------------------------------------------------

Go to Add Or Remove Programs, then uninstall/remove all of these programs and add-ons:

    Adobe Reader

    Apple Software Update

    Flash Player

    Google Update Helper

    IE5 Registration

    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

    Java Virtual Machine

    Media Player

    Shockwave Player

After they're all uninstalled, restart the computer.

    --------------------------------------------------

Download and save these programs and add-ons:

    Adobe Flash Player ActiveX 10.1.102.64

    Adobe Flash Player Plugin 10.1.102.64

    Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5.9.615

    Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0.23

    Foxit Reader 4.3.0.1110

Close all open windows first, then install them.

After they're all installed, restart the computer.

    --------------------------------------------------

Advise me when you've completed the above 3 sections.

    --------------------------------------------------

What peripherals(printer, scanner, iPod, camera, MP3 player, external hard drive, etc.) do you have connected to and use with that computer?

    --------------------------------------------------
