I'm trying to help my mother with a problem she has been having on her xp system. When she boots up,the taskbar tray icons are missing...except for the volume icon.Once the system has been on for several minutes she gets a message which says the system is shutting down-Remote procedure call has terminated unexpectedly.I followed a thread by rollin rog about a microsoft patch/critical update with regard to this Remote procedure call problem My question is this....can this patch be installed now or do we have to take other steps to resolve the current problem before the patch can be used.Thankyou for any help or advice.

It is the W32.Blaster.worm I believe. You can find details on it including the removal and Microsoft patch at the Symantec Security page.
