    Hi all,

I replaced the hd on a dell pc. When I tried to use the installation disk that came with the pc (XP home SP1), it would go so far and then blue screen. Any suggestions to fix this issue?

possible cause: windows xp does not support SATA controllers natively

more input please, e.g. model #, WHEN does the BSOD exactly occur, details of the stop error message displayed.

it is a dell dimention/xps 9200. the bsod happens when it gets to the starting windows message at the bottom of the screen. I don't have the stop error message with me at work.
    Thanks,
    Kelly

check your BIOS settings and make sure SATA operation mode is set to IDE

press F6 when prompted during setup to install 3rd party drivers and install the SATA controller drivers manually from floppy disk.

if you don't have a floppy drive, slipstream (nLite) the drivers into the windows installation CD.

while you're at it, you may as well slipstream Service Pack 3 and the latest critical bugfixes.

Where could I get instructions on how to slipstream? It sounds like that would be easier because then I wouldn't have to install the sp separately.
