Hello everyone, first time poster here. Nice forum.

At the startup, I'm getting some error messages..

    1. mimboot.exe - Entry point not found - something to do with a CoreDll.dll
    2. hpqthb08.exe - Failed to initialize properly- HP imagezone??
    3. A couple of symantec errors (don't use norton anymore but can't delete it either)
    4. And after we get rid of the error messages, the HP update Agent runs the whole time but can't ever complete the update. I usually have to get out of that by alt+ctrl+del..

When we try to shut down the computer, it just doesn't do it. I ran regcleaner and it fixed a bunch of stuff, but still wouldn't shut down or restart properly. Then I disabled NVidia driver helper, seemed to help a little, but now it gets stuck on the blue "logging off" screen and we still have to turn it off and restart manually. Very frustrating.

I have included the hijackthis log in hopes that someone might be able to look it over and see what they can see. Would anyone be willing to help out? Thanks in advance..

Ok, I was fooling around with regcleaner some more and removed the HP imagezone, mimboot (which was musicmatch) and the HP update from the startup list and now it's shutting down and restarting like it should. Was this ok to do? I'm just kind of winging it here since I don't have much time today and nobody seems too interested in this thread.:p

I still get the symantec error though and don't know what to do. Norton won't let me just uninstall it. I'd like to though. If anyone has some time, I'd appreciate it if you would peruse the HJT log and tell me if you see anything out of the ordinary. I wish I could do it myself.

There are way too many unnecessary programs running in the background. I see over 25 startup entries that can be disabled. This site will assist you in trimming down the startup list.

Get rid of all those toolbars. Besides eating up too much vertical viewing space, some of them can be problematic.

You need to make the upgrade to SP2, but you need to prepare your computer for it first. Read here.

Although I can't assist in HJT logs, I must recommend that you have it moved to the Security forum.

In the top-right corner of your message is a red triangle with an exclamation mark: Report Post to Moderators. Ask them politely if they can move your post to the Security forum. You'll more likely (and more quickly) get a response.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'll report it to MOD to be moved to Security a little later on after I see if anyone knows something about another problem I forgot to mention..

Somewhere in yesterday's problem solving, this computer lost it's Java. This is a friends computer and she noticed that she couldn't play games on pogo because of the Java. I tried following the links to download it again, but it said that the Windows Installer was messed up. The windows installer has been messed up for quite some time now.

When I try to download Java I get the following message..

"The Windows Installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you're running Windows in safe mode, (which I'm not) or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

I checked and the WI isn't disabled, it's on manual but I believe it's keeping this computer from things such as windows updates, adding and removing stuff etc etc.

    Any ideas?
