IE problem, web page fault, XP corruption or settings is the question.
when I go to the (french) web page url below I have the problem described. I posted here on this forum because I suspected that settings in XP might be wrong or corupted, but don't know for sure.

Below is the web page URL.

    http://jt.france2.fr/8h/

I do not have the problem with any other french news web page. I am using IE6 but tried IE 7. Both browsers result in the same error(s) as follows.

If you go to that web page I would appreciate anyone's response as to how the page is displayed on your computer, which might be a clue for my problem.

There is a embedded menu at the left of the web page titled "INFO" which actually does work normally. However, that left hand menu overlaps other page displays and text. A relative living in another state who uses cable (I use DSL) does not have the problem and the menu is displayed with its correct border without covering anything else on the page.

When I place my mouse pointer over the areas affected by the menu overlap, the page status is "error on page", or "done but with error on page" Investigating that error in a search engine always takes me to web pages that evidently are dedicated to web page design, programming, script writing, etc. which may mean the page is not written correctly by the web designer, but I can't be sure of that yet.

I have two malware and virus removal programs as well as trying cookie, threats, temp files, etc. deletion but it doesn't help. Also, I have tried page sizes, text sizes, etc with no results. Anyone know what might be causing this problem?

Here's something that sounds like a page edit error. I checked the status bar when the mouse is over a particular affected area with errors. Tthe details are: LINE: 278, CHAR: 54
    ERROR: UNTERMINATED CONSTANT, CODE: 0

what a horrible web site yes it ran fine no problem but started up itself showing film clips and reporting the news and i had to shut down to get rid of it.suggest you try internet options and click restore defaults as this often fixes issues or can be easier to reinstall IE,quite often i find reinstall much quicker than fiddling about so keep a copy on hard disc.

Tried that also in internet options/advanced/restore defaults. That also did not help. I updated to IE7 and still had the same problem so I uninstalled IE7 (because it's so slow and has too many bugs), I like IE 6 much more.

When you looked at the page, did the menu (INFO) on the left side keep itself in its borders or did it cover up any dispalys or text? It covers an entire block of text and display for me, and since it's not a drop down menu I obvioudly can't move it. If you don't have that, I was thinking that different locations may affect computer browsers in different ways (from European sources, especially french).

From what it says in post #2, I wouldn't bother going back to that page or you'll end up posting a hijack this log here.
