XP winlogon error

    I'm not sure what may have caused this but every time I start my computer and enter my password for the login, I get an error message stating something about the memory reference from winlogon . If I click the cancel button the system settings will not load. But if I leave the error message on the screen and resume without exiting the error message, the computer loads my user settings and operate fine. Please help if anyone knows how to fix this.

    It would help a lot if you can note down the exact wording of the error message.
