Legal retail home version XP, with subsequent microsoft upgrades, and SP2.

Now, when attempting to re-install XP (for repair reasons) it will not allow, due to the XP disk being an "older version".

What the heck? Is the disk now useless?

Unless you slipstream SP2 yuu will not be able to perform a repair install . . You can perform a clean install by deleting partitions and recreating . . then proceed to format and install.

    Hope this helps . .
