I received an email from a friend (my address was in a long list of addresses in the 'To' field) which was obvious spam, trying to collect something from me. I'm not sure what exactly since they already had my email address. I didn't stick around on their site long enough to read the whole form. And I ended up having to wipe out my cache files (i use mozilla) just to be free of them. But I emailed him asking if he sent it out. He had not. Someone obviously was able to send out an email to everyone in his contact list. My question is this: How serious is this? This guy is kind of all thumbs on his computer so I don't want to put him through all kinds of changes if its not really necessary. One website said he should report this to Yahoo, to his local police dept and to the Internet Crime Complaint Center. Its a lot of stuff to do for some poor guy who doesn't know a lot about computers. I don't want to seem like an alarmist, but I don't want to leave this hanging if its really a real problem.

If he still has access to his account settings he should at the very least change his password to something more secure.
