Personally, I have made good use of the "Windows XP Service Pack 3" site at

http://www.thehotfix.net/sp3.html

and have installed numerous hotfixes from it(11 of them today).

This is what my SP3 list, per Belarc Advisor 7.0T, currently looks like:

I know this may sound like an oxymoron but I would rather get my hotfixes from the Official Microsoft site.

I guess I am missing something . . what does the "Windows XP Service Pack 3" do for you that the Microsoft Update site does not? ? ? I am with Squashman . . much rather get updates from Microsoft.

I'll make it unanimous! :D I don't get Microsoft updates from brand-X sites...

Augie65:

I have enough sense to know not to download and install the "Unofficial XP SP3 Hotfix Preview Pack".

By the way, that was an interesting article.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Squashman/JohnWill/simpswr:

I've downloaded and install every update that Microsoft has released at the Windows Updates site, except for a couple of hardware drivers.

What I like about this site and the MDGX Max Speed site is that they provide addition fixes that Microsoft doesn't release. The install process shows that these hotfixes are from Microsoft.

I always read the Microsoft KB article to each of these hotfixes to see what files are involved and what the version numbers are BEFORE I install them.

I didn't mean to insult you or question your intelligence. I just wanted others to be aware that they should check out information before they install any download on their computers.

No offense taken.

Believe me, I don't install these updates blindly and without reading about them first.

Hey Frogman, I see you made it through the little rain storm, Yes, I downloaded the SP3 but you have to install them 1 by 1 (about 185 separate updates) so I deleted the download, You can use an auto-installer but when you start it up it states that it is not recommended to install it that way.

I don't want this thread to turn into a heated debate. I just wanted to hear some comments about the site.

Tapeuup:

Thanks for that little tidbit of information. There's no way that I'd try to install 185 updates at one time. If I have several of them to do, I install 2 - 3 of them, reboot, then repeat the process.

SP3?? I don't even run SP2 right now. I hope SP3 reverses some of the stuff SP2 did actually.;)

I have installed SP2 so many times it is pathetic only to revert to SP1. MS without asking how anybody felt forced you to do things with SP2 that altered the way the OS worked. Maybe that was a great thing for the average PC user but I am resistant to change. Hey, I paid for XP pro. I paid for that boot screen.:p

Now I hope you all know that isn't my reason but how many of you thought when you first booted up you had D/L'd the wrong SP2? My scanner will not work with SP2, some of my games do not work. As long as they make 3rd party security programs, and as long as I can D/L the monthly updates, <(Sept 06 I believe) I'll not use SP2.

The security center drives me nuts. If you don't have auto update on it nags you, it is just a nuisance (until I get infected that is :D) as far as I am concerned.

SP3, No way.
